Article

Sethuraman started his chess career at the age of 4. He learned the game from his father S.Panaiappan . Started playing tournaments from the age of 5 . He became the Chennai district champion (under 8) in Oct 99 at the age of 6. This was his first success. He became Tamil Nadu state champion (under 10) in the year 2001 . He became the National champion (under 13 ) in the year 2004. He became the Asian Champion (under 12) in 2004 in Singapore . He became the world champion (under 16) in the year 2009. So far he has won 3 World medals, 4 Asian Medals, 2 Commonwealth Medals, 9 National Medals, 6 State medals. He became International Master in 2007. He got First Grand Master Norm in 2009. So far he has visited 15 foreign countries. He had training under GM Aleksander Goloschapov, Ukaraine and GM R.B.Ramesh, India. He is currently studying in Velammal Matriculation in Mogappair in12^th std.

Family: His father S.Panaiappan ,Graduate, running chess academies in Chennai .He trained his son till the age of 12. His wife P.Deivanai , graduate, is also a chess player. She accompanies Sethuraman for all tournaments in India and aborad. His brother S.P.Murugappan, also a chess player, studying in 7^th standard in Velammal Matriculation School.
