Thai Amavasai is the new moon day in the Tamil Month of Thai (January – February). The day is dedicated to forefathers who have died.
It is believed that on this day the souls of the dead visit to bless their relations on the earth.
The day is of great significance at the Rameshwaram Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. Thousands of people take dip at Rameshwaram and visit the Agnitheertha kadarkarai in the morning to offer pujas to the forefathers. Special prayers also offered to the Navagrahas at Navapashanam - Devipattinam. |
