| Deepam festival begins Nov 22, 09 |

Tiruvannamalai: The 10-day Karthigai Deepam festival began at Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple here on Sunday with hoisting of flag.
Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, Pancha Moorthis were taken near flag mast early in the morning. Thousands of people thronged the temple as early as 5.20 a.m. to witness the commencement of the festival.
The festival will end with lighting of ‘Maha Deepam’ atop the 2,668-foot hill on December 1. The temple car festival customarily celebrated on the seventh day of the event falls on November 28 this year. Director General of Police K.P. Jain visited the temple on Sunday and reviewed the security arrangements.
